ROOFBOX
Profitable rooftop heat recovery systems
The Roofbox is a modular gas-liquid heat exchanger that is easily placed on the roof. Installation requires minimal process interruption, and roof load is calculated in advance. The system is scalable.

Heat Matrix supplies Exodraft gas-liquid heat exchangers, which are easy to install and scalable thanks to their modular design. A Roofbox is placed in a skid on the roof. Just above the process. Installation usually requires a process interruption of no more than half a day. Because the system is modular, it can be applied in different sizes, allowing it to be tuned to the right heat-processing capacity for your specific process.
Where is the Roofbox applied?
We mostly apply the Roofbox for heat recovery in small and medium-sized industry and where installation expertise within the company is limited. Together with our sister company Bos Nieuwerkerk, we provide the complete installation including ductwork modifications. We also calculate and inform you of the roof load. In many cases, reinforcement of the roof structure is not necessary.
When is the Roofbox profitable?
The deployment of a Roofbox is profitable at a flue gas production of 400 to 4000 kg/h and at temperatures up to 600⁰C. The recovered heat is transferred to water. The hot water can be used for a variety of purposes. Such as heating process water, cleaning water or the heating of buildings.
Where do we get the heat from?
- Furnaces
- Thermal oil boilers
Where do we feed the heat to?
- Process water
- Cleaning water
- Building heating systems
The operating principle of the Roofbox
A Roofbox is a complete and integrated heat recovery system with a heat exchanger cartridge made of stainless steel plates. Flue gas and water are passed along these plates, with the flue gas transferring heat to the water. Condensation will occur as well in some processes, which further increases efficiency. The recovered heat can then be used in operational processes.
Benefits and gains
- Placing the Roofbox in a bypass keeps your process stable
- Process interruption is short, usually no more than half a day
- The heat exchanger cartridge is removable for cleaning
- Integrated control system makes programming unnecessary
Which Roofbox configuration is right for you?
Heat Matrix will recommend the most beneficial configuration for your specific situation. In order to do that, we deeply analyse your process and your building. Together, we will make a decision based on all factors (costs, benefits, accessibility, process interruption).
End-to-end solution
The Roofbox is a turnkey, risk-free system that pays off in no time. We take care of both mechanical and electric installation, giving you a turnkey solution.
Integrated total package
- Removable plate changer
- Flue gas fan

Install and run!
Heat Matrix supplies the Roofbox as a turnkey system. When we leave, everything works and your existing process is as stable as it was before.
ALTERNATIEF
Modulebox, the DIY variant of the Roofbox
In addition to the Roofbox, we can also supply the Modulebox. The Modulebox offers the same technology and therefore the same advantages as the Roofbox, but in the form of a DIY kit. In addition, the Modulebox is not installed on the roof, but has to be placed above the process. As the Modulebox is supplied as a DIY kit, your installer will need a great deal of knowledge and experience.
Warning!
Installation of the Modulebox requires specialist technical knowledge and experience. We regularly find that installers underestimate this, which can lead to implementation challenges. Not quite sure? Opt for the Roofbox, which will ensure a smooth and successful process. Want to know more about the installation? Please feel free to get in touch.
Verschil tussen de Modulebox en de Roofbox
Modulebox
- Must be placed indoors above the process
- Requires a highly experienced installer
- Longer process interruption (± 2 days)
- More economical than the Roofbox
Roofbox
- Installed on the roof
- Requires no space on your premises
- Short process interruption (0.5 days)
- Guaranteed plug & play delivery
Andere typen warmtewisselaars
Naast de luchtvoorverwarmer zijn er ook andere typen warmtewisselaars die wij geregeld inzetten bij de warmteterugwinningsprojecten die we uitvoeren voor opdrachtgevers.
